Where the River Bends

Verse 1

Fingerpicked guitar and voice

There's a stone the water worriedSmooth as the inside of your wristI go there when the town gets loudAnd the herons don't ask whyI've been saving it for you

Pre-Chorus

Bring nothing but your bare feetLeave the hours on the bank

Chorus

Meet me where the river bendsWhere the water slows to breatheWhere the alders bow their headsMeet me where the river bends

Verse 2

The trout hang still against the currentLike they're listening for youI have never shown a soulI'm showing you

Pre-Chorus

Bring nothing but your bare feetLeave the hours on the bank

Chorus

Upright bass, brushes and cello enter

Meet me where the river bendsWhere the water slows to breatheWhere the alders bow their headsMeet me where the river bends

Bridge

Soft falsetto

Let the water take our namesIt has kept the old ones well

Final Chorus

The band swelling gently

Meet me where the river bendsWhere the water slows to breatheWhere the alders bow their headsMeet me where the river bendsMeet me where the river bendsWhere the water stops to breatheWhere the alders bow their headsMeet me where the river bends
