Plant Them in November

Verse 1

Arpeggiated guitar and voice, low and close

Worst year I've had in a long timeLost the job and lost my nerveBut the hardware store had tulips on saleFifty bulbs for twenty bucksSo I knelt in the cold and dug

Pre-Chorus

There is nothing to show for it nowJust dirt and my frozen hands

Chorus

Plant them in NovemberIn the cold, in the darkI still believe in AprilPlant them in November

Verse 2

All the neighbors think I've lost my mindDigging holes before the first snowBut I've seen what waiting does to thingsSpring still keeps her word

Pre-Chorus

There is nothing to show for it nowJust dirt and my frozen hands

Chorus

Strings and heavier drums enter

Plant them in NovemberIn the cold, in the darkI still believe in AprilPlant them in November

Bridge

Felt piano, voice alone

If it all comes up in colorI'll know that I did too

Final Chorus

Stacked harmonies, full strings

Plant them in NovemberIn the cold, in the darkI still believe in AprilPlant them in NovemberPlant them in NovemberIn the cold, in the darkI still believe in mePlant them in November
