Glow in the Dark

Intro

Music box, a light switch clicking off

Verse 1

Moved back home with two bags and a lampMom kept my room like a museumSame blue walls, same crooked frameSame plastic stars my dad stuck up when I was nine

Pre-Chorus

He said they'd shine all night for meHe didn't say they need the lightBefore they learn to glow

Chorus

I'm like the stars on my ceilingI only shine if you leave the light on firstGive me a minute of something to holdAnd I'll give you the dark back, softer than it wasBut nobody's left the light on in a whileSo I'm just plastic in the darkGlow in the dark

Verse 2

You used to leave the hallway light on lowSaid you couldn't sleep unless you saw meNow I sleep with the lamp and the TV and my phoneAnd I still wake up at three looking for you

Pre-Chorus

He said they'd shine all night for meHe didn't say that they get tiredA little more each year

Chorus

I'm like the stars on my ceilingI only shine if you leave the light on firstGive me a minute of something to holdAnd I'll give you the dark back, softer than it wasBut nobody's left the light on in a whileSo I'm just plastic in the darkGlow in the dark

Bridge

Everything drops to breath and sub bass

Maybe I could be my own lightStand in the doorway, flip the switchCount to sixty with my eyes wide openLet it fill me up like this

Final Chorus

Guitars swell, voice breaking open

I'm like the stars on my ceilingI only shine if I leave the light on firstSo I'll leave it on, I'll leave it onAnd give the dark back, softer than it wasNobody's coming to switch it on for meSo I'll do it, I'll do it myselfGlow in the dark
