Blackberry Stain

Verse 1

Fingerpicked guitar and voice

We went down the lane for bramblesAugust thick and humming in the heatYou reached in past the thornsAnd never once looked downYou came back bleeding and laughing

Pre-Chorus

Your hands are full of sweetnessAnd the summer's nearly gone again

Chorus

Blackberry stain on your mouthAnd thorns all along my armsI would bleed for every oneBlackberry stain on your mouth

The wasps are drunk on fallen fruitThe hedge leans in to seeYou hold one to my lipsAnd dare me not to look

Your hands are full of sweetnessAnd the summer's nearly gone again

Chorus

Upright bass, brushes and cello enter

Blackberry stain on your mouthAnd thorns all along my armsI would bleed for every oneBlackberry stain on your mouth

Let the frost come for the hedgerowI have had my fill of you

Final Chorus

The band swelling gently

Blackberry stain on your mouthAnd thorns all along my armsI would bleed for every oneBlackberry stain on your mouthBlackberry stain on my mouthAnd thorns all along my armsI would bleed for every oneBlackberry stain on your mouth
